Recognize Barriers to Diet Changes

  • Finding out patients' barriers to diet and lifestyle changes may provide solutions to bridge understanding and promote change.


  • Some African Americans have diets that are unique to their culture. Traditional foods classically cooked with pork fat or salt can be altered. This requires education on healthier alternatives.

  • In addition, fast food and other low cost food options are sometimes more convenient choices. Education on healthier alternatives is important.
